— Non, je ne fume pas, répondit tranquillement Alexis Alexandrovitch, comme pour montrer qu’il ne redoutait point cette conversation. Et s’adressant avec un fin sourire à Pestzov : "No, I do not smoke," replied Karenin, calmly; and as if to prove that he was not afraid of this conversation, he turned toward Pestsof with his icy smile:—
