12 settembre.—Quanto sono buoni tutti con me. 12 September.—How good they all are to me. Io amo veramente molto quel caro Dottor Van Helsing. I quite love that dear Dr. Van Helsing. Mi chiedo perché fosse così premuroso riguardo a questi fiori. I wonder why he was so anxious about these flowers. Mi ha positivamente spaventata, era così feroce. He positively frightened me, he was so fierce. Eppure deve avere avuto ragione, perché già ne sento conforto. And yet he must have been right, for I feel comfort from them already. Non so come, ma stanotte non temo di restare sola, e posso addormentarmi senza paura. Somehow, I do not dread being alone to-night, and I can go to sleep without fear. Non mi dispiacerà alcun fruscio fuori dalla finestra. I shall not mind any flapping outside the window.
