E mma descendit la première, puis Félicité, M. Lheureux, une nourrice, et l’on fut obligé de réveiller Charles dans son coin, où il s’était endormi complètement, dès que la nuit était venue. Emma got out first, then Felicite, Monsieur Lheureux, and a nurse, and they had to wake up Charles in his corner, where he had slept soundly since night set in.
Homais se présenta ; il offrit ses hommages à Madame, ses civilités à Monsieur, dit qu’il était charmé d’avoir pu leur rendre quelque service, et ajouta d’un air cordial qu’il avait osé s’inviter lui-même, sa femme d’ailleurs étant absente. Homais introduced himself; he offered his homages to madame and his respects to monsieur; said he was charmed to have been able to render them some slight service, and added with a cordial air that he had ventured to invite himself, his wife being away.
