Había algo en el ademán y en la expresión de tía Polly cuando besó a Tom que dejó los espíritus de éste limpios de melancolía y le tornó de nuevo feliz y contento. HERE was something about Aunt Polly's manner, when she kissed Tom, that swept away his low spirits and made him light-hearted and happy again. Se fue hacia la escuela, y tuvo la suerte de encontrarse a Becky en el camino. He started to school and had the luck of coming upon Becky Thatcher at the head of Meadow Lane. Su humor del momento determinaba siempre sus actos. His mood always determined his manner. Sin un instante de vacilación corrió a ella y le dijo: Without a moment's hesitation he ran to her and said:
— Me he portado suciamente esta mañana, Becky. "I acted mighty mean to-day, Becky, and I'm so sorry. Nunca, nunca lo volveré a hacer mientras viva. ¿Vamos a echar pelillos a la mar? I won't ever, ever do that way again, as long as ever I live—please make up, won't you?"
