Each of us will be armed, and, as we are amply provided with powder and shot, we need not spare our fire. Nous n’avons rien à craindre des fusils, ni même des canons du brick. We have nothing to fear from the muskets nor even from the guns of the brig. Que pourraient-ils contre ces roches ? What can they do against these rocks? et, comme nous ne tirerons pas des fenêtres de Granite-house, les pirates n’auront pas l’idée d’envoyer là des obus qui pourraient causer d’irréparables dommages. And, as we shall not fire from the windows of Granite House, the pirates will not think of causing irreparable damage by throwing shell against it. Cyrus Smith avait chiffré nettement la situation, tout en parlant de la voix la plus calme, comme s’il se fût agi de travaux à diriger et non d’une bataille à régler. Cyrus Harding had clearly represented their situation, although he spoke in the calmest voice, as if it was a question of directing a piece of work and not ordering a battle. Gédéon Spilett et Ayrton, tous deux très-bons tireurs, furent armés des deux carabines de précision, qui portaient à près d’un mille de distance. Gideon Spilett and Ayrton, both very good marksmen, were armed with the two rifles, which carried nearly a mile. Les quatre autres fusils furent répartis entre Cyrus Smith, Nab, Pencroff et Harbert. The four other muskets were divided among Harding, Neb, Pencroft, and Herbert.
