These terms are an agreement between you and Babelotheca (“we”, “us”) covering your use of the website and the bilingual reading and translation service. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.
Babelotheca presents public-domain literature in two languages, sentence by sentence, with idiom and difficult-word annotations. Subscribers also get AI sentence explanations, EPUB and PDF exports, and a tool for translating their own documents.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian agrees to these terms on your behalf. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for everything that happens under your account.
Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance through our payment processor, Lemon Squeezy. Prices are shown on the pricing page. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them from your account. Refunds are handled under our Refund Policy.
All books in the library are in the public domain. Translations come from Wikisource (also public domain) or are generated by Claude (Anthropic). AI translations capture meaning faithfully but may differ from established literary renderings. We make no claim of copyright over the public-domain texts.
You keep ownership of any documents you upload for translation. You grant us a temporary licence to process them for the sole purpose of producing your bilingual export. You confirm that you have the right to upload anything you submit and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Sentence explanations and translations produced by Claude are intended as study aids, not authoritative translations or legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. Use them at your own discretion.
You agree not to:
The Babelotheca name, logo, design, software, and original editorial content (annotations, alignments, exports, blog posts) are owned by us and are not part of the public-domain corpus. You may not copy or reuse them without permission.
The service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for purpose, and non-infringement. Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under English law (for example, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud).
You can close your account at any time from the account page. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms or pose a risk to the service or other users.
We may update these terms over time. If we make a material change, we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify subscribers by email. Continuing to use the service after the change means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of England and Wales. Nothing in this clause removes consumer rights you have in your country of residence.
